Chrome Appearance Settings give you the ability to customize your Chrome’s appearance.
However, some users reported that Chrome Appearance Settings stopped working and they can’t do anything.
In this article, we explore a couple of resolutions to troubleshoot the chrome appearance update issue.
- Google Chrome’s appearance update fails because it simply can’t download the images.
- In some cases, the cause is Chrome’s cache, so delete or clear it.
Run Chrome Cleanup
- Click the Chrome menu, and then click Help.
- Click About Google Chrome.
- Click the Clean up computer button.
- Click Remove files.
Update Chrome using Chrome’s built-in updater
- Click the Menu icon in the top right corner of Chrome and select Settings.
- Scroll down to the Updates section and press the Check Now button.
- Restart Chrome after the update appears.
Reset Chrome
- Chrome has an automatic update feature that allows your Chrome to automatically update when a new version is available.
- Right click your Google Chrome icon > select “Properties”
- In the “Properties” window > select the †̃Target’ tab.
- In the †̃Target’ tab > select “Reset” > click “Reset”.
- Restart your computer.
- Check if the problem is resolved.
- Uninstall Chrome
Right-click the Chrome icon > select “Uninstall” - Restart your computer.
- Download and Install Latest Version of Google Chrome
- Go to Google’s Chrome Web Store > search for Google Chrome.
- Select “Download Chrome” > download the chrome.
- After downloading Chrome installation file, install it on your computer.
Use Chrome’s built-in troubleshooter

Open the Chrome app and look for the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner.
Click the icon to open the menu. Select Help.
Scroll to the bottom and click the Troubleshooting information link. - If Chrome detects any issues, it will display them. Click the Try recommended solution button to try the proposed fixes.
Remove extensions
- Remove unwanted or suspicious extensions in Google Chrome.
- Click on More Tools and select Extensions from the menu.
- Locate the extension you suspect is the culprit, and select Remove.
- Restart your PC and check for any improvements.
- Uninstall Chrome
Open Google Chrome. - Click on More Tools and select Extension.
- Click the Uninstall button located next to the name of the extension.
- Restart your PC.
- Download a Different Version of Chrome
Download Chrome from an external source. - Restart your PC, and install the new Chrome version.
Reinstall Chrome
- Click on Start
- Type in “Control Panel”
- Right-click on “Control Panel” and choose “Uninstall a Program”
- Find Google Chrome in the list
- Click on it and choose “Uninstall”
- After uninstalling Google Chrome, restart your computer
- Install Chrome again
