PC users may find that their Windows 10 computer doesn’t shut down properly, and if they do shut down, they may not be able to restart it. This may be due to sleep shortcut errors.
The sleep shortcut is a temporary shutdown option in your power options. When your computer is shutdown using this method, it may subsequently fail to restart.
- The Sleep shortcut key errors are caused by missing or corrupted system files.
- The Sleep shortcut key is configurable so try to remove it from your custom shortcuts.
Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter
- To access the troubleshooter, press the Windows key + S hotkey, enter troubleshoot in the text field, and select Troubleshoot settings from the results.
- Select the Hardware and devices troubleshooter tab on the troubleshooter’s window.
- Then press the Run the troubleshooter button.
Update the BIOS
- Go to Search, type BIOS in the search box, and open BIOS setup.
- Go to the Power Management tab.
- Enable the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option.
Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter
- Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Click View all > Windows Update.
- Click Run the troubleshooter.
Run the SFC and DISM scans
- Press the Windows key + X hotkey.
- Select Command prompt (Admin) or Command prompt (Admin) (Windows 10) to open that utility.
- Enter the following lines in the prompt and press Enter after each one:
Check Power Options
- Go to Search and type power options
- Click the Change plan settings option
- Go to Change advanced power settings.
- Click the Power Plans tab.
- Select the power button and open a new tab.
- Set the Shutdown settings to “Never”
Perform a Clean Boot
- Press the Windows key + R shortcut keys to open the Run.
- In the Run window, type in msconfig and click OK.
- In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab.
- Uncheck all the items except the Hide all Microsoft services checkbox.
- Click the Disable all button.
- Click the OK button.
- Restart your PC.
Disable Fast Startup
- Go to Search, type power options, and open Power Options.
- Scroll down to the Choose what the power buttons do section, select Change settings that are currently unavailable, and then click on Turn on fast startup (recommended).
- Now, scroll down and uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended).
- Finally, click on the Save changes button.
Disable Microsoft’s Dynamic Lock feature
- Open Settings app and navigate to Privacy.
- Under the section Additional privacy controls, select Dynamic Lock.
- Choose Turn off Dynamic Lock and confirm the action.
Reset the Power Settings
- Open the Settings app and navigate to the System section.
- Choose the Power & sleep, select Additional power settings, and open the Change plan settings feature.
- Locate the Plan you are currently using and check the box next to Change advanced power settings.
- Now, press the Change plan settings button.
- Choose the Change advanced power settings option.
- Click the plus sign next to Processor power management.
- Now, select the Maximum processor state option.
- Set this value to Maximum allowed.
- Check if Sleep shortcut error is resolved.
- Reset the Power Plan
Press the Windows key + I shortcut to open the Settings app. - Navigate to the System section and select Power & sleep.
- Click the Change plan settings button.
- Locate the Plan you are currently using and press the Change button.
- Click the plus sign next to Processor power management.
- Now, choose the Maximum processor state option.
- Set this value to Maximum allowed.
- Check if Sleep shortcut error is resolved.
